Remember the old saying about idle hands
being the devil's playground? Well that saying is still
valid today.
If your kids are out "hanging" with their friends, they are
sure to find trouble. Start them young with hobbies.
If you teach your kids at an early age the pride that goes
with a good hobby, they won't be looking for something to do
all the time. Summer won't be so boring anymore.
You can even get your preschooler involved in hobbies. How
do puzzles sound? Start them young putting puzzles
together. Not only will this help their eye hand
coordination but it will get them out from in front of the
TV.
Grade school children can build models, collect all sorts of
different things, sew or crochet, paint, the possibilities
are really endless.
If you start your kids on hobbies when they are very young,
they will always have something to do.
How do you get the kids involved in hobbies if they are used
to video games? The best way to get your kids out of the
house and started down a different road is to offer to spend
money on them.
Tell them you are taking them to the store to buy something
new. Then take them to a hobby shop. Give them a spending
allowance and tell them to look around and pick something
out.
Once they choose something, buy it and head for home.
Encourage your child to get started right away.
Take a real interest in the new hobby. Even if you aren't
interested, pretend you are. The more excited you get, the
more it is likely your child will be excited. Try to keep your child involved in the new hobby by
producing more parts or information periodically. More stuff
equals more interest.
As your child grows, his or her interests will
mature as well. If you notice your child is losing interest,
try suggesting a new hobby.
Keep in mind, the earlier you start with a hobby, the
greater your chances are of keeping your child involved.
